What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?

Traditional Chinese Medicine is an ancient healing art, that has been used successfully for over 3000 years in China and among the peoples of the wider non-Chinese Asian Diaspora. It can prevent and treat illness, boost the immune system and calm an anxious spirit. Acupuncture and Chinese herbs are two primary Chinese Medicine modalities.

A session will generally begin with an in-depth medical interview, an orthopedic
assessment when applicable, a treatment consisting of acupuncture, and/or microcurrent therapy or somatic experiencing depending on the nature of the ailment and, in most cases, the prescribing of a Chinese Herbal formula that is custom tailored to the client’s needs.

Acupuncture

Traditional Acupuncture and Orthopedic Dry Needling techniques are both offered to create treatment that is individualized to each patient’s unique needs.

Traditional Acupuncture is based on Chinese Medical theory of qi and blood flow through the acupuncture meridians. Qi, in this context, refers to the the movement of blood in the body and bioelectrical stimulation from spine and brain out to the organs and muscles in the periphery of the body. It focuses on general balance of the meridians to support a sense of overall well-being and relaxation. It is based on traditional fundamental concepts of Chinese medicine empirically proven to be beneficial over the course of 3000 years.

Orthopedic Acupuncture includes an orthopedic assessment and acupuncture techniques such as dry needling/trigger points, motor points, electroacupuncture, myofascial and soft-tissue therapies as well as individualized corrective exercises to address all levels of musculoskeletal injury and dysfunction and support full recovery.

Orthopedic Acupuncture eases pain, improves mobility, relieves taut constrained muscles and balances postural misalignments.

What About Chinese Herbs?

Chinese herbs can, certainly, be used by themselves, but are traditionally used in combination with acupuncture. Together, they make an outstanding therapeutic combination. Chinese herbal formulas are carefully chosen combinations consisting of numerous Chinese herbs designed to treat the client’s symptoms and overall body constitution. Prescribing by formula, rather than a just one or two herbs, allows the herbalist to guide the formula to specific areas of the body, and to add herbs to enhance each other’s effects. The Chinese Herbal formula will continue to be changed to reflect the condition of the client until symptoms are alleviated.
